How it works

When horses graze in sandy areas or eat off the ground, they inevitably ingest small amounts of sand that gradually accumulate in the intestine. Over time, this sand can build up to dangerous levels and cause sand colic, a potentially fatal problem. Psyllium is a soluble fibre that, when in contact with water in the intestine, forms a gel that traps sand particles and eliminates them via faeces. Regular administration prevents dangerous accumulation.

How to know if your horse has sand

Simple test: collect fresh faeces, place them in a clear container with water, and let sit for 15 to 30 minutes. If sand is present, it will settle at the bottom of the container. Visible amounts of sand indicate a preventive administration protocol is needed.
